In the beginning.... Lymescale & Grime Enquiry Agents.

 How it all began.

In the beginning was the word and the word was. 'Are you the Mick Finn who wrote the unfunny bits in Brent's Events?'

Yes I know that's more than a word but that's the message that Colin sent to Mick after a gap of about twenty years, and from that small beginning Lymescale & Grime was born.

This is the opening paragraph of a short story that Mick subsequently sent to Colin.

Lymescale & Grime PI’s

Tom Thomas walked into the dining room of his 1950's semi-detached south London home and witnessed the sylph like woman he had spent the last forty years with, eating. He wasn't concerned about what she was eating, or even, how she was eating, it was the fact that she was eating that troubled him.

What are you eating now?” said Tom.

It's my new diet.”

What's it called. The eating for two diet?”

Gripping or what? What, properly, but trust me it gets better.

The first book, Lymescale & Grime, contains ten stories that cover a variety of topics, including; aliens, undercover police officers, the bible, the world of the arts, stalking and so much more.

Each story can be read as a standalone entity but as the book progresses they build on each other and characters and incidents re occur in later books and stories.

If any of the above piques your interest why not put a toe in the murky waters of Lymescale & Grime?

This book and all other Glyn Roy books are available from AmazonLulu and other online stores.

A brief update

A few words just to let you know what we're up to.

We are just finishing off what will be book 8 in the Lymestone & Grime series, it will be called, Lymescale & Grime and the Grateful Dead, and it should be finished by the end of the month.

Recently  had to go back and alter the cover of Dating, Lymescale & Grime because Meta were not happy about a copyright that I had apparently used without permissions. I repeatedly asked them which one and they never replied. In the end I assumed it was a pack pf German dates on the cover of Dating that was the problem and so I've changed that. Although I doubt whether the Frischebox Date company of Germany were overly concerned about the use of their logo on the cover of a supposedly humorous detective book.

In the next couple of blogs I'll start introducing in chronological  order the books we've written so far, so until then, have a quiet Easter.

The first post.

As this is the opening post of the Glyn Roy author blog I'd like to give a brief explanation as to its purpose.
Glyn Roy is the pen name of two ex telecoms engineers whose middle names are Glyn and Roy hence the name Glyn Roy.
Glyn and Roy first met in the 1980's in a BT building called Brent Building, which was to be found in London
They soon discovered that their humour coincided and they began to write a monthly magazine to raise the morale of those unfortunate enough to work with them. The magazine entitled Brent's Events was a libellous collection of stories based upon gossip relating to their work mates. It was met with universal disinterest, apart from one sad soul who asked if there was a binder available to collect them all in.
In Brent Building one of their fellow workers was involved in the scouting / guide movement and he approached Glyn and Roy to write a sketch revue which would be put on for charity. This they did and as it was 1984 they wrote a series of sketches based upon the works of Orwell. To give an idea of what it was like. The revue opened in pitch darkness with just the sound of Barbara Streisand singing, 'Someone to Watch Over Me' and went downhill from there. Despite this, a few years later they wrote another revue with sketches based upon the names of Beatle songs. I Want to Hold Your Hand for example became a sketch about a would be Dr Frankenstein who required a hand, literally to finish his monster. Following that there were no more requests for revues, so Glyn and Roy contented themselves with various incantations of Brent's Events depending in which building BT had placed them, e.g.. Ricky Rites and Notsrag. (Rickmansworth and Garston.) Shortly after the move to Garston, BT decided they no longer needed engineers to maintain their business model and offered redundancy to any BT employee that wanted it. In the stampede that followed our intrepid pair both decided to take the money and run, in Roy's instance to Cornwall and in Glyn's to Australia.
That could and probably should have been the end of the partnership but several years later and thanks to the wonders of the internet Glyn, who was now in Germany and Roy, who had gone native. got back together again, Glyn asked Roy if he still wrote and he replied yes and sent him over a short story based upon two detectives, Glyn liked the idea and wrote a follow up based on the same theme and the characters Lymescale & Grime were born.
However Lymescale & Grime was not the first book they published together. Glyn and Roy had written a play for voices, or audio drama, as the BBC call them, based upon Brexit and using an idea shamelessly stolen from an Ealing comedy called 'Going Dutch'. This they combined with six other plays covering such varied topics as; Artificial Intelligence (Nostradamus eat your heart out), religion, the genius of Leonardo Da Vinci and public urination and was published as Going Dutch. This was followed by additional Lymescale & Grime books.
Going Dutch and several Lymescale & Grime books are available to purchase on line.
Going forward we'll use this blog to provide information regarding new titles and also to engage with anyone who would like to contact us.
